Psychotherapy that changes lives
psychotherapy - adult & Teen
Most people come to therapy when they reach a point where coping isn’t enough anymore.
Something inside feels fractured, overwhelming or quietly collapsing, and you know it’s time to face it with someone trained, steady and genuinely present.
With an M.Sc. from DCU & TPTI (the most respected & rigorous Psychotherapy training in Ireland) in Integrative Psychotherapy and with over 15 years clinical experience.
I provide a grounded, safe space to explore the real story beneath anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship stress and the pressures life places on you.
Therapy with me is honest, reflective and deeply supportive.
We work together to understand what’s happening internally, why you respond the way you do, and what needs to shift for you to feel stronger, clearer and more connected to yourself.
You don’t have to navigate this alone.
Real change begins with a simple conversation.
clinical hypnotherapy
There are places inside us that talk therapy can touch, transform & change … and places it cannot.
Clinical hypnotherapy opens the deeper door - the one held by memory, emotion, imagery and the quiet protective intelligence of the unconscious mind.
My work blends Ericksonian hypnosis, psychodynamic understanding and analytical depth work.
It is a gentle, deeply attuned process that helps the mind soften its grip, release old patterns and create new internal pathways.
Each session is crafted specifically for you - shaped by your history, your nervous system, your language and your lived experience.
Sessions are individually constructed using a clinical assessment of your history, patterns and objectives.
This is a specialised form of hypnotherapy - transformational, technically grounded and informed by depth psychology and Ericksonian principles.
It provides a structured, effective pathway for shifting entrenched unconscious patterns and facilitating measurable psychological change.
couples psychotherapy
Every relationship reaches a point where something breaks down - communication, trust, intimacy, safety, connection or the simple ability to understand each other. Most couples know that something is wrong, but they can’t name it clearly or agree on what needs to change. That’s where the work begins.
Couples psychotherapy with me is structured, direct and deeply attuned. We slow the conflict down, uncover the pattern underneath it and map the emotional logic each of you is living inside. This is not surface-level coaching or advice. It is clinical, depth-oriented relationship work grounded in psychodynamic insight, attachment theory and the real-time dynamics that unfold between you. You will learn how to speak so the other can hear, listen so the other feels safe and understand what actually drives the reactions, shutdowns, anger, distance and repetitive arguments. Once couples see the pattern clearly - not the symptoms - everything begins to shift. From that point, small consistent changes create powerful movement. Most couples wait far too long before seeking help. You don’t have to.
If something in your relationship feels strained, stuck or quietly slipping, this work gives you a structured way forward - steady, honest, compassionate and focused on helping you rebuild connection, clarity and trust.
the heart of my work & what it means for you
This video gives a direct explanation of who I am, how I work and what creates actual, measurable change in therapy, in my own words and voice: precision, attunement and an ability to read what’s happening beneath the surface. In this short video, I outline what that means for you — clarity, honesty and work that goes beyond surface-level coping strategies. I outline what I offer: depth-oriented psychotherapy - for people who want more than surface-level coping. If you want to get to the root cause and heal it - what I offer may be right for you! I work with those who are ready to feel, unravel, heal — and come home to themselves. There’s only one kind of miracle — the hard work kind. If you’re ready for that, I’m here.
about the therapist - annie o’brien
When people go through dark spells - unresolved pain, accumulated stress, or the quiet collapse of something inside - life can feel as though it is coming undone. But what looks like dissolution is often the psyche’s way of signalling that something deeper needs attention.
My work sits at the heart of that threshold. I help people navigate the “dark night of the soul” that visits every human being at some point - not as a crisis to fear, but as an invitation to reconnect with the Self.
Therapy offers a steady, private place to understand what is happening within, to feel held rather than alone, and to move through pain with clarity, compassion and honesty.
I am an Integrative Psychotherapist with a humanistic ethos and an eclectic range of therapeutic approaches. This allows me to tailor the work to the individual sitting across from me - because no two people are the same, and no single method fits everyone.
I am deeply committed to ethical practice, ongoing professional development, and regular clinical supervision. I have a particular interest in the therapeutic nature of the human–animal bond and the psychological significance of our connection with other living beings.
Outside of my clinical work, I am inspired by poetry, art and the Irish countryside. I share my life with my beloved horse Black Beauty, my well known - always by my side - dog Sophie and a small family of rescue felines. Animals, nature and the quiet intelligence of the living world continue to shape my understanding of attachment, resilience and the healing potential within us all.
